From L'Ala d'Italia 1933: "He was born in Susa on April 27th, 1900. Long-time captain, after sailing on sailing ships and steamers, he became Officer of the Complementary Navy and boarded the RR. Submarines. In 1923 he joined the R. Aeronautica and was appointed pilot in 1924. He is decorated with a gold medal for the Aeronautic valor for taking part in the Italy-Brazil transatlantic air cruise."

From L'Ala d'Italia 1933: "He was born in Ferla (Syracuse) on 6 January 1905. After being an artillery officer he joined the Air Force and obtained a military pilot's license on 2 May 1925. He was a professional flight instructor."
